Police have confirmed that the situation in Southeast Maluku remains safe and conducive following the stabbing incident that killed Agrapinus Rumatora, alias Nus Kei, Chairman of the Golkar Party’s Southeast Maluku Branch in Maluku.

The Head of Public Relations for the Maluku Regional Police, Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, also urged all parties not to be provoked and to leave the handling of the case to the police.

“We urge the entire community, especially the victim’s extended family and supporters, to exercise restraint and entrust the handling of this case to the National Police. Do not engage in any retaliatory actions that could worsen the situation. Currently, the situation in Southeast Maluku is safe and conducive,” stated Rositah in her remarks on Sunday (19/4).

The stabbing incident was reported to have occurred at the exit area of Karel Sadsuitubun Ibra Airport, Kei Kecil Subdistrict, Southeast Maluku Regency, around 11:25 WIT. The victim had just arrived by plane from Jakarta at the time.

“Suddenly, the victim was stabbed by an unidentified person using a knife. The suspected perpetrator fled immediately after the incident,” said Rositah.

The victim was rushed to Karel Sadsuitubun Hospital by family members at 12:00 WIT. However, the medical team declared the victim deceased due to the injuries sustained.

Police immediately launched an investigation into the incident, and within two hours of the event, two suspects, HR (28) and FU (36), were apprehended. They are currently undergoing intensive questioning at the Malra Police Resort Criminal Investigation Unit.

“For the motive, it is still being explored by investigators,” said Rositah.

Golkar Mourns

The Central Executive Board of the Golkar Party expressed condolences over the stabbing incident that killed the Chairman of the Golkar Party’s Southeast Maluku Branch in Maluku, Agrapinus Rumatora alias Nus Kei.

Golkar Party General Secretary Muhammad Sarmuji said he had heard the news from the victim’s wife. He also mentioned that the perpetrators had been arrested.

“I have [heard] and according to the information, the perpetrators have been arrested,” Sarmuji said when contacted.

“We are deeply saddened, grieving, and angry about this incident. We extend our condolences to the family and the extended family of the Maluku Provincial Board, especially Southeast Maluku,” added Sarmuji.

However, Sarmuji was not yet aware of the perpetrators’ identities and the motive behind the stabbing incident.

“The motive is still being investigated by the police. Who they are and the motive, I am not yet clear,” said Sarmuji.

The member of the DPR’s Commission VI hopes that the police will swiftly uncover the case completely. Sarmuji also asked party cadres to remain alert and not to be provoked by the situation.

“To the cadres, remain alert but do not get provoked by the situation. Let us give our trust to the police to thoroughly investigate the incident,” he said.
