Nursing union to build floating clinic

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: The local chapter of the Indonesian Nurses Association (PPNI) is to construct a floating clinic to provide free medical service for the poor living along Musi River dividing the South Sumatra provincial capital of Palembang.

The planned construction of the medical clinic was based on a survey that found almost two million people living in poverty along the river have no access to adequate medical services.

Chairman of the local chapter of PPNI A. Djauhari said here on Monday said that the floating clinic, worth Rp 700 million (US$85,365), would focus on the health problems of woman and children and patients with skin diseases.

He said PPNI would get a subsidy from the provincial administration and financial assistance from foreign donors to build and run the clinic. --Antara
