Video footage circulating on social media showing instructors lifting a young woman onto their shoulders before throwing her into a ravine has gone viral. A bungee jumping activity that was supposed to be enjoyable turned tragic because the instructors forgot to attach the safety cord to the victim. According to local media reports, the victim initially survived the fall. One of the witnesses, and the first person to reach the victim, was off-duty nurse Rayza Dias. She stated that the victim, Rodrigues de Freitas (21), was still alive when she reached the base of the bridge. Speaking to local media, Dias recalled how she had to rush down the steep, muddy terrain, injuring her hands in the effort to reach the young woman. “My entire hand was grazed because there is a steep slope down there and there was only one rope for us to descend,” Dias told Brazilian TV network Domingo Espetacular. “Everything was covered in mud. I kept going down, down; we walked the whole way,” she added. According to the nurse, Rodrigues de Freitas remained conscious for a short time after the fall. She even spoke with her whilst rescuers tried to assist. “I saw her breathing heavily, and I looked at her pupils, which unfortunately were both dilated, and felt her pulse. It was very weak, but she still had a pulse,” she said.
