Nurse: Woman Thrown into Ravine Without Bungee Cord Was Still Alive During Fall

Video footage circulating on social media shows an instructor lifting a young woman onto their shoulders before throwing her into a gorge. What was intended to be a fun bungee jumping experience turned tragic when the instructor forgot to attach the safety rope to the victim.

According to local media reports, the victim survived the initial impact of the fall. One of the witnesses and the first person to reach the victim was Rayza Dias, an off-duty nurse.

She stated that the victim, 21-year-old Rodrigues de Freitas, was still alive when she reached the bottom of the bridge. Speaking to local media, Dias recalled having to rush down the steep, muddy terrain and injuring her hands in the attempt to reach the young woman.

“My entire hands were scratched because there was a steep slope down there and there was only one rope for us to descend,” Dias told the Brazilian TV network Domingo Espetacular on Sunday, as reported by NDTV on Monday.

“Everything was covered in mud. I kept going down, down; we walked the whole way,”

According to the nurse, Rodrigues de Freitas remained conscious for a short time after the fall. She even spoke with her while rescuers were attempting to assist.

“I saw her breathing heavily, and I saw her pupils, which unfortunately both dilated, and I felt her pulse. It was very weak, but she still had a pulse,” she said.
