Nuriana's progress report accepted
BANDUNG, West Java: The West Java provincial legislative council has decided to accept the progress report submitted by outgoing governor R. Nuriana last week, amended with a note.
In a plenary session attended by the governor and other local officials, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) and the National Awakening Party (PKB) factions stated that they accepted the progress report -- with the addition of a note saying that the government failed to carry out development programs in certain areas in the province.
"We accept the governor's progress report with the addition of several notes that require attention from the next governor," said Henda Suwenda of the PDI Perjuangan faction on Saturday.
For example, he said, Nuriana had failed to control the administration from creating opportunity for corruption among public officials.
The PKB faction said the supervisory board at the provincial administration had yet to function optimally, so that many development projects had incurred extraneous costs not covered in the province's budget.
Nuriana's second term of office will end in June and the two factions have nominated Tayo Tarmadi, former chief of the Suliwangi Military Command, as a candidate to replace him. -- JP
