Nurhadi Remains Imprisoned for Five Years in Rp137 Billion Case, KPK Hopes for Deterrent Effect
Jakarta’s High Court (PT) in DKI Jakarta has upheld the five-year prison sentence handed down to Nurhadi, the former Secretary of the Supreme Court. The KPK hopes the ruling will provide a deterrent. ‘The KPK hopes this decision can provide a deterrent and serve as a reminder that integrity is the foundational pillar in carrying out duties and powers as a state administrator and law enforcement official,’ KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters on Friday (22 May 2026). He said the appellate court’s decision is consistent with the first-instance ruling of the Jakarta Central District Court against Nurhadi. ‘The KPK appreciates the decision of the High Court panel in DKI Jakarta that upheld the first-instance verdict against the Defendant Nurhadi,’ he added.
Previously, Nurhadi was sentenced to five years by the Central Jakarta District Court. The judges found him guilty of receiving gratuities and TPPU (money laundering). ‘We sentence the Defendant to a prison term of five years,’ said presiding judge Fajar Kusuma Aji when reading the verdict at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta on Wednesday 1 April. The judge also fined Nurhadi Rp 500 million. If the fine is not paid, it is to be substituted with 140 days’ detention.
The judge also ordered Nurhadi to pay a replacement sum of Rp 137,159,183,940 (about Rp 137.16 billion). The court said Nurhadi’s assets may be seized and auctioned to pay the replacement; if insufficient, this could be replaced with three years’ detention. ‘Imposed an additional penalty on the Defendant to pay a replacement amount of Rp 137,159,183,940,’ the judge added.
The court indicated that Nurhadi received money from various parties totalling Rp 137 billion. It noted a significant upswing in transactions after Rezky married Nurhadi’s daughter, Rizqi Aulia Rahmi. The court also found that Nurhadi was involved in TPPU.
The court reported that Nurhadi, via Rezky, placed funds totalling Rp 307,206,571,463 and USD 50,000 into other people’s accounts, bought land and buildings, and purchased motor vehicles. It also considered Nurhadi’s legitimate income from his business of swiftlet nest farming, valued at Rp 66.9 billion.
The judicial process proceeded to appeal. The Jakarta High Court subsequently upheld the verdict, meaning Nurhadi remains sentenced to five years in prison. ‘Upheld the decision of the Corruption Court at the Jakarta Pusat District Court No. 126/Pid.Sus-TPK/2025/PN Jkt.Pst dated 1 April 2026, as appealed,’ according to the Supreme Court’s decision directory, cited on Friday (22 May). The appellate ruling was handed down on Wednesday (20 May). The appellate court ordered Nurhadi to remain in custody to serve the sentence.
