Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait, known as Ara, has revealed President Prabowo Subianto’s directives following the discovery of numerous PT KAI lands controlled by third parties. Ara stated that these lands must be allocated for the benefit of the public.

“Certainly, state land, as per President Prabowo’s instructions, must be used for the interests of the state, including in various locations in the regions that we will announce later,” Ara said after a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026).

The government, according to Ara, is preparing several steps to take back KAI lands controlled by other parties. In the future, the administration will announce these steps.

“Yes, in due time, there will be major steps announced by the President to bring about significant changes on how these state lands—I mentioned earlier—are being prepared by Mr Nusron at several points, and the lands will be announced at the appropriate time,” she said.

The KAI lands controlled by third parties are planned to be used for housing residents living along railway tracks. The government has prepared a scheme to regain control of these lands and provide decent housing for the residents.

“Then the financing will be handled by Danantara, and there will also be a scheme to facilitate, such as for subsidised housing where BPHTB is provided free, acquisition costs for land and buildings are free—previously paid by MBR, low-income communities. Then PBG has been provided free since November last year,” Ara explained.

“So, it means clear state intervention; from the regulations, those taxes are waived. BPHTB and PBG are taxes that people used to have to pay, the little people had to pay, but they have been waived starting last year by the President,” she added.

Previously, Ara had stated that many PT KAI lands intended for public housing were controlled by third parties. Ara urged not to hesitate in taking back state-owned land for public use.

“We know this is a state of law. So, state land must be present and used for the interests of the state and the people. Don’t hesitate,” Ara said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, before meeting Prabowo on Monday (6/4).

Ara mentioned that she had inspected several points along railway tracks with KAI President Director Bobby Rasidini for public housing. Several KAI lands controlled by third parties were found.

“And yesterday I went to the site in Tanah Abang, and this morning I went to Bandung with the KAI President Director. There are many state lands controlled by third parties, and we will take them back for the interests of the state and the people,” Ara said.
