The number of victims of a firecracker explosion in Situbondo, East Java, has increased to two. The victims died as a result of the explosion in Dusun Mimbo, Sumberanyar Village, Banyuputih District, Situbondo Regency.

Situbondo Police Chief AKBP Bayu Anuwar Sidiqie said that one of the victims who had just died was Abdurrahman (15).

“Today we received a report that one of the firecracker explosion victims died after being treated at a hospital in Jember,” said Bayu when confirmed, Thursday (26/2).

Abdurrahman died after undergoing treatment at Dr. Soebandi Hospital in Jember, due to burns covering approximately 90% of his body as a result of the explosion.

The first victim was Supriyadi (50). He died shortly after the incident after being hit by debris from the house.

Meanwhile, five other victims, namely Samsul (22), Riko (25), Faiz (20), Fino (25) and Kulsum (60), are still undergoing medical treatment at the Asembagus Situbondo Regional Hospital.

As is known, a loud explosion occurred in a resident’s house in Dusun Mimbo, Sumberanyar Village, Banyuputih District, Situbondo, East Java, on Wednesday (18/2) afternoon.

The Situbondo Police Chief, AKBP Bayu Anuwar Sidiqie, confirmed that they had secured several firecrackers from the scene.

“The cause is suspected to be from firecrackers or explosives. One of the pieces of evidence we secured was several firecrackers with a diameter of between 3 to 4 cm and a length of 15 cm. Quite long,” said Bayu to the media, Wednesday (18/2).
