Number of Tourists to Jakarta Decreased in April 2026
The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for Jakarta Province reported that the number of domestic tourist trips to the capital in April 2026 totalled 8.74 million, representing a 19.97% decrease compared to the previous month. On an annual basis, the figure also declined by 17.44%.
Kadarmanto, Head of BPS Jakarta, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the monthly decline was driven by the end of the ‘mudik’ (homecoming) period which occurred in March 2026. The annual decline was attributed to the shift in the homecoming period, which took place in March 2025 but moved to April in 2026.
South Jakarta remained the most popular destination for domestic tourists, contributing 28.10% of total trips. Kadarmanto noted that South Jakarta offers numerous tourist attractions, culinary hubs, and various other destinations compared to other regions of the city. Central Jakarta ranked second with a 20.42% contribution, followed by East Jakarta at 19.48%, West Jakarta at 16.32%, North Jakarta at 15.16%, and the Thousand Islands at 0.52%.
In contrast to the decline in visitor numbers, the occupancy rate (TPK) for star-rated hotels in Jakarta reached 54.80% in April 2026, an increase of 10.83 percentage points from March 2026 and a 7.94 percentage point increase compared to April 2025. For non-star hotels, the occupancy rate was recorded at 38.09%, up by 3.44 percentage points monthly and 0.05 percentage points annually.
The average length of stay in star-rated hotels was 1.60 nights, indicating most guests stayed between one and two nights. This figure saw a negligible monthly increase of less than 0.01 points but a slight annual decrease of 0.05 points. For non-star hotels and other accommodations, the average stay was 1.33 nights.
Guests in star-rated hotels were predominantly Indonesian, accounting for 88.93% of visitors, while foreign guests made up only 11.07%. Three-star hotels remain the favourite for Indonesian guests, representing 34.6% of the proportion, whereas foreign guests tended to stay in four-star hotels, which accounted for 43.12% of their stays.
