Number of Suspects in DPR Demonstration Riot Rises to 49

Polda Metro Jaya has updated its legal handling data regarding the riot during a demonstration near the DPR/MPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, which occurred on Thursday (27/8). As of Tuesday (1/9/2026), investigators have named 49 people as suspects.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that of the 49 suspects, 44 adult suspects are being handled by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum).

“Meanwhile, five others are children in conflict with the law, and their handling is carried out by the Directorate of Women and Children Services (PPA) and Women and Children Protection (PPO),” Budi said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

The naming of 49 suspects is the final result of verification and synchronisation of data from a total of 322 people who were detained by police during the demonstration. Budi confirmed that the remaining 273 people have been released after undergoing a thorough examination process.

Budi also clarified the details of three suspects in possession of sharp weapons. The three individuals are part of the breakdown of suspect roles in the case file, not an additional number of new suspects separately.

Previously, the police named 45 suspects on Friday (28/8/2026). Based on the development of evidence and witness examinations, investigators grouped the perpetrators into six role clusters.

Director of General Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, Police Commissioner Iman Imannudin, outlined the details of these clusters.

Polda Metro Jaya confirmed that the investigation process is still ongoing to thoroughly investigate parties involved in mobilising the masses and damaging public facilities.
