Number of Medical Faculties in West Java Increases

The number of medical faculties in West Java has increased once again. This time, Telkom University (Tel-U) has officially established one through the Decree of the Ministry of Higher and Technology, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 963/B/O/2026.

Tel-U officially opened the Faculty of Medicine (FK Tel-U) at the Tel-U Bandung campus on Tuesday (1/9). The Rector of Tel-U, Suyanto, explained that the birth of this faculty is a tangible manifestation of the institution’s contribution to transforming health education to meet modern challenges and the increasingly complex needs of national healthcare services.

Adopting the major theme “The Next Gen Medical Doctor”, the presence of FK Tel-U is focused on producing a new generation of Indonesian doctors who are not only clinically resilient but also adaptive, innovative, and pioneers in digital health based on predictive and precision medicine.

“We are not only educating doctors who are capable of treating patients, but doctors who are capable of innovating by utilising digital technology, health data, predictive medicine, and precision medicine to provide a real impact on society,” said Suyanto in his press statement on Tuesday (1/9).

To support this vision, FK Tel-U has prepared an integrated learning ecosystem centred in the N Building. This 5,000-square-metre facility, spanning three floors, is fully equipped, ranging from modern lecture halls, tutorial rooms, and an OSCE Centre for clinical simulations, to cadaver rooms and a student lounge.

For its academic operations, FK Tel-U is collaborating with the Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University of Bandung (Unisba) as its mentoring institution. Additionally, dr. R. Soedjati Soemodiardjo Hospital (RS Otista) has been appointed as the primary teaching hospital.

The Head of University Development Programme and Chair of the FK Tel-U Establishment Task Force, Lia Yuldinawati, Ph.D., stated that this ecosystem is designed as a “living laboratory.” “We are preparing students to become future doctors who are clinically competent, socially sensitive, and ready to utilise technology,” said Lia.
