The Jakarta Provincial Government will increase the number of schools participating in the free private school programme to 103. This expansion will take effect in the new academic year starting in July 2026.

Head of the Jakarta Education Office, Nahdiana, stated that the programme has been running in 40 schools since 2025. The programme follows an academic year cycle that begins in July and ends in June of the following year.

“We will increase the number; in 2026, it will be 103. There are already 40 schools participating,” said Nahdiana at the Jakarta Education Office, Thursday (26/2/2026).

The free private school programme is one of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to expand access to education for the community. By increasing the number of schools, it is hoped that more students will be able to receive education without the burden of school fees.

“The 40 schools have been participating since 2025. The academic year starts in July and ends in June. It will start again in July 2026. So, these 103 schools will start in July 2026,” she said.

Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government planned to expand the free private school programme in 2026. From the initial 40 schools this year, the target is to reach 258 schools next year.

“The plan is for 258 schools in 2026,” said Deputy Head of the Jakarta Education Office, Sarjoko, at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (13/8/2025).
