Number of Foreign Tourists Coming to Indonesia Plummets
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The number of foreign tourists coming to Indonesia in August 2009 plummeted by 5,46 percent or 566.800 compared to those in August 2008. Compared to July 2009, the number of foreign tourists in August 2009 also went down by 4,49 percent.
According to Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) chief, Rusman Heriawan, the number of tourists coming from 11 main entry points in August 2009 went down by 3,68 percent compared to the same month of last year, namely from 501.200 people to 482.800 people.
“Compared to July 2009, foreign tourists coming from the 11 entry points also plummeted by 5,43 percent,” Rusman said in Jakarta yesterday.
However, foreign tourists going to Bali via Ngurah Rai Airport in August 2009 rose by 18,60 percent compared to August 2008. Meanwhile, compared to July 2009, the number of foreign tourists going to Bali went down by 1,22 percent, from 235.000 people to 232.200 in August 2009.
