Number of foreign tourist arrivals to Riau reached 25,462 in April 2026
The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for Riau Province recorded that foreign tourist arrivals to the region in April 2026 reached 25,462 people, representing a 7.43 per cent decrease compared to the previous month.
The Head of BPS Riau, Asep Riyadi, stated that international tourists entered through four main immigration points: Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru, and the ports of Dumai, Bengkalis, and the Meranti Islands. Additionally, arrivals were tracked via Mobile Positioning Data (MPD) covering the Bengkalis border areas.
“The number of arrivals through main immigration points was dominated by tourists using air transport, contributing 60.93 per cent, while those using sea transport contributed 39.07 per cent,” he said in a statement in Pekanbaru on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits recorded via MPD in the Bengkalis Regency totalled 20,755. MPD refers to visitor data arriving through border posts that have not yet been recorded by immigration authorities due to location or staffing constraints.
He noted that foreign arrivals to Riau during April 2026 were dominated by Malaysian nationals, with 11,965 visits (46.99 per cent). This was followed by visitors from China (2,331 or 9.15 per cent), the Philippines (1,732 or 6.80 per cent), Singapore (1,232 or 4.84 per cent), and India (893 or 3.51 per cent).
The Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) for starred hotels in Riau Province in April 2026 stood at 45.49 per cent, an increase of 5.24 points compared to March 2026, which was 49.25 per cent. The highest occupancy rate among starred hotels in the province was recorded in 4-star hotels at 53.97 per cent.
“The Average Length of Stay (RLMT) in starred hotels in April 2026 was 1.28 nights, an increase of 0.02 points from the previous month, which was recorded at 1.26 nights,” he added.
