Number of bus passengers drops

BANDUNG: The number of bus passengers traveling through Cicaheum bus terminal in Bandung is down by almost half compared to the same period last year, the station head says.

Terminal head Munazat Ramdhan said seven days before Idul Fitri last year, passengers traveling through the terminal were recorded at 8,728 but this year the number had dropped to 4,676.

A day later they had only increased to 4,844 from 10,559 last year, he said.

Munazat said the steep rise in bus tickets prices following the fuel price hikes on Oct. 1. was the likely reason for the decrease.

More people were probably traveling home by motorcycle, he said. -- Antara
