Number of air passengers up

JAKARTA (ANTARA): Director General for Air Transportation
Zainudin Sikado said over the weekend that the number of year-end
air passengers at the country's 17 airports increases by 25
percent.

Sikado told reporters that the increase is the biggest in
three years.

"The increase is 11.6 percent more than the last two years,"
he said.

Christmas and New Year holidays are also holidays for students
and employees taking annual leaves.

In an anticipation of the passenger increases, the government
has taken necessary steps such increasing flights frequencies for
dense routes, extending airport operation hours and preparing
chartered planes.

The seat capacity was also increased by 57 percent so that the
passenger increase of 25 percent could be accommodated, the
director general said.
