Nuisance at U-turns
Nuisance at U-turns
From Neraca
For several years now the number of self-appointed traffic guides at U-turns in Jakarta has increased tremendously. They have not helped in easing congestion but instead often cause bottlenecks and hazards for themselves.
These guides, known as pak Ogah, may suddenly stop vehicles coming on at high speed. At the Pulo Mas U-turn on Jl. Yos Sudarso all types of vehicles head for Tanjung Priok in high gear. If these guides position themselves in the middle of the highway and suddenly wave for vehicles to stop, it is highly dangerous for the motorists forced to a sudden halt.
If the drivers do not heed the guides and slow down it is dangerous for the pak Ogah.
These unproductive guides had better look for another activity e.g. small traders. Closing down U-turns like the one on Jl. Pramuka in the Pasar Genjing area, is not the right solution.
