Nuclear energy
Nuclear energy
From Bisnis Indonesia
According to Prof. Teuku Jacob, nuclear weapon technology is
outlandish and terrible. The expert believes that man is on the
brink of self-annihilation for continuing to develop the weapons
but not being able to use them. (Humanized Technology, Obor
Indonesia, 1996).
It is absurd that people continue to develop this destructive
technology which is capable of annihilating the whole
civilization.
To compensate this darker side of nuclear technology, nuclear
power has been tested under the disguise of "nuclear energy for
peace". Experience has shown that this kind of nuclear power
killed people in Chernobyl and caused widespread devastation.
According to Nicholas Lenssen, besides instant deaths it was
estimated that 14,000 to 475,000 cancer-related deaths were also
detected as a direct result of the tragedy. (Don't let the earth
be miserable, Obor Indonesia, 1993).
The application of nuclear technology is irrational, although
we can assume that the atomic bomb will never be used and nuclear
disasters of the Chernobyl caliber will not be repeated.
