Nuclear debates through media
JAKARTA: Members of the public concerned about the government's plan to establish a nuclear power plant should write to the mass media, a non-governmental organization said Wednesday.
The group, calling itself Sun Flower Solidarity, said in leaflets distributed recently that the move was needed to improve public awareness on environmental issues, technology, gender, civilization and democracy.
The group's spokesman Andreas Iswinarto said its activists would compile all published letters on the nuclear plant and the other listed issues and send them to the House of Representatives and the government.
"We need at least 100 published letters or articles," Andreas said.
The group itself has written 100 letters about environmental issues of which 65 have been published.
"We call on the public to make use of the space available in the media to highlight our stance on the planned construction of a nuclear power plant," the leaflet said. (08)
