NU Will Continue to Support Government as Long as It Does Not Lead to Disbelief

Rais Aam of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, KH Miftachul Akhyar, has asserted that Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) will continue to support the government as long as it operates on the values of goodness and fights for the people’s interests. In his address before President Prabowo Subianto, Kiai Miftach stated that NU’s support for the government should not be doubted, provided the government does not lead towards disbelief (kekufuran) and wickedness (kefasikan). “As long as the government does not lead to disbelief and wickedness, it will continue to receive strong support, especially from Nahdlatul Ulama,” he said at the closing ceremony of the 2026 National Conference of Alim Ulama and the Nahdlatul Ulama Grand Conference at the Sayyidina Kholil Islamic Institute in Bangkalan, East Java, on Tuesday (23/6/2026). He assessed that attention to justice and the struggle to defend the people’s fate have become President Prabowo’s character. Therefore, he invited all attendees to pray that the head of state continues to be given strength in solving the nation’s various problems. “We offer prayers for him so that he can continue to improve what has so far appeared lacking. In fact, I am confident there are still reserves, there are still ultimate weapons to overcome all the problems faced,” he said. Kiai Miftach also reminded the audience of the importance of praying for leaders. He quoted the opinion of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, who stated that if one has a single efficacious prayer, that prayer should be dedicated to the leader. “If I have an efficacious prayer, I will offer that prayer for my government, for my leader, for my president. If our president and leader are good, earnestly fighting for the community and the people, then it is the people who will receive the benefits,” he said. According to him, a leader’s success in realising the people’s welfare will bring benefit to the entire nation. On that occasion, Kiai Miftach specifically offered a prayer that President Prabowo would always be granted health, the protection of Allah SWT, and brilliant thoughts in leading Indonesia. “May our President be granted health and well-being, always be under the protection of Allah, and be blessed with brilliant thoughts, so that this great people and community can soon receive what they hope for, so that this country is full of prosperity in justice and just in prosperity,” said the supreme leader of NU.
