NU Will Continue to Support Government as Long as It Does Not Lead to Disbelief
The Rais Aam of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), KH Miftachul Akhyar, has emphasised that Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) will continue to provide support to the government as long as it operates based on the values of goodness and fights for the interests of the people.
In his address before President Prabowo Subianto, Kiai Miftach stated that NU’s support for the government should not be doubted, provided the administration does not invite disbelief (kufr) or immorality (fisq).
“As long as the government does not invite disbelief and immorality, it will continue to receive strong support, especially from Nahdlatul Ulama,” he said during the closing ceremony of the National Consultative Assembly of Ulama and the Grand Conference of Nahdlatul Ulama 2026 at the Sayyidina Kholil Islamic Institute, Bangkalan, East Java, on Tuesday (23/6/2026).
He noted that the focus on justice and the struggle to defend the people’s fate has become a characteristic of President Prabowo. Consequently, he called upon all attendees to pray that the Head of State is granted continued strength in resolving various national issues.
“We offer our prayers to him so that he can continue to improve what has appeared lacking. I am even confident that there are still reserves and ultimate weapons available to overcome all the problems being faced,” he said.
Kiai Miftach also reminded the audience of the importance of praying for leaders. He cited the opinion of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, stating that if one possesses a prayer that is answered (mustajab), that prayer should be dedicated to the leader.
“If I had an answered prayer, I would direct it towards my government, my leader, and my president. If our president and leaders are good and work earnestly to fight for the community and the people, then the people will be the ones to benefit,” he said.
According to him, a leader’s success in achieving public welfare will bring benefits to the entire nation.
On this occasion, Kiai Miftach specifically offered prayers for President Prabowo to be granted health, the protection of Allah SWT, and brilliant thoughts in leading Indonesia.
“May our President be granted good health, always be under the protection of Allah, and be endowed with brilliant ideas, so that this large population and community can soon receive what they hope for, ensuring this country is filled with prosperity in justice and justice in prosperity,” said the highest leader of NU.
