NU Congress in August, Gus Ipul Appointed as Committee Chairman
Secretary General of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU), Saifullah Yusuf or Gus Ipul, has confirmed that preparations for the NU Congress are proceeding according to plan, following the decision to hold it in August 2026.
At present, several preparations have been undertaken, including the formation of a small committee.
“Yes, we are continuing with the preparations. Yesterday, it was decided that the congress will take place in August,” he stated on Monday (27/4), quoted from Antara.
As a follow-up, he said, a small committee has been established to prepare the composition of the organising committee for various organisational agendas.
The small committee consists of the leadership of the Steering Committee (SC) or Steering Committee. KH Said Asrori serves as Chair of the SC, with Mohammad Nuh as Secretary of the SC.
The Chair of the Organising Committee (OC) or the main committee is Gus Ipul. The Secretary of the OC is Amin Said Husni.
“A small committee has been formed, and it has now finalised the composition of the organising committee required for the congress, ulama scholars’ meeting, and the congress,” said Gus Ipul.
He explained that the full composition of the organising committee will subsequently be reported to the Rais Aam of PBNU and the General Chairman of PBNU.
He stressed that the congress preparation process is proceeding in stages and adheres to the organisation’s mechanisms.
“The key point is that the congress preparation process is ongoing. We will report it to the rais aam and the general chairman later,” he said.
Regarding congress participants, Gus Ipul explained that participants will be branch and regional executives who hold management decrees (SK), while those with pending SKs are currently being addressed by a panel team.
He mentioned that the panel team is chaired by Muhammad Nuh with Amin Said Husni as secretary. This team is tasked with resolving the pending SKs before the congress takes place.
“Therefore, to the regional and branch executives, we ask all to focus on congress preparations. Once again, for the SK requirements, there is now a panel team handling it and discussing it step by step,” said Gus Ipul, who is also known as the Social Minister.
