NU Congress Bahtsul Masail Commission discusses I'anatun Nadzar concept

The Bahtsul Masail Maudluiyah Commission of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress is prioritising discussion of the I’anatun Nadzar concept in its session at MAN 3 Bahrul Ulum, Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java.

Chair of the Bahtsul Masail Maudluiyah Commission Session, K.H. Cholil Nafis, said in Jombang on Saturday that the concept was being addressed first because it had previously been discussed at the National Alim Ulama Deliberation (Munas).

“Actually, the I’anatun Nadzar concept has already been discussed at the Munas. However, in this congress’s bahtsul masail forum, input will be gathered from the muktamirin so that the resulting formulation becomes more robust,” he said.

I’anatun Nadzar concerns the review of decisions made by the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) that have been established through either a Congress or a Munas.

Cholil said the discussion at the 35th NU Congress still leaves room for muktamirin to provide input on the formulation that has been prepared previously.

Musahhih of Bahtsul Masail at the Munas Alim Ulama in Al Falah Ploso, Kediri, K.H. Aniq Nawawi, said that previously established organisational decisions are not rigid and can still be re-examined.

According to Aniq, a review is necessary if, at a later date, new considerations are found that are deemed stronger than the decision that has been established.

In addition, changes in social reality within society and developments in the methodology of legal derivation (istinbat hukum) are also reasons for the need for an evaluation space for existing decisions.

The discussion of I’anatun Nadzar at the 35th NU Congress is expected to strengthen the evaluation mechanism for organisational decisions while maintaining the bahtsul masail tradition so that it remains responsive to developments in societal issues.

The activity was attended by muktamirin who had been divided according to commissions. After the commission discussions are completed, the results will be brought to the commission plenary for ratification, including technical discussions on the rules of procedure for the election of the chairperson.
