The Central Java regional board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) has affirmed that disaster response actions and humanitarian work must not be divided by organisational, political or religious backgrounds. This was stated by the chairman of PWNU Central Java, KH Abdul Ghoffar Rozin (Gus Rozin), while leading the Disaster Preparedness Muster of the NU Peduli Volunteers Jamboree for Central Java at the Harda Walika Campground, Gunungpati, Semarang City, on Saturday (25/7/2026).

“In the context of humanity, cooperation between elements of society regardless of group, ideology or religion must be prioritised. Humanity is the main foundation,” said Gus Rozin before 418 muster participants from 27 Nahdlatul Ulama branch boards (PCNU) across Central Java.

Gus Rozin highlighted the geographical conditions of Central Java, which is frequently hit by alternating natural disaster threats, from clean water crises during the dry season to floods and landslides during the rainy season. He asked all volunteer ranks to train their preparedness regularly so that responses when disasters strike can be carried out swiftly and in a coordinated manner.

“A rapid response determines everything. And that speed does not come suddenly, but is born from continuous training, simulation and capacity building,” he asserted.

In addition to physical and infrastructure recovery, PWNU Central Java emphasised the importance of holistic post-disaster handling through psychological support programmes (trauma healing) to restore the mental health of victims. To realise this, NU Peduli is partnering with psychology faculty academics, women’s organisations such as Fatayat NU, and other humanitarian communities.

The preparedness muster was also marked by the launch of the digital platform NU Risk, which serves as an integrated volunteer data system as well as a means of reporting disaster events in real time.

In addition, the event was interspersed with the symbolic handover of aid from the Central Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in the form of command tents and communal kitchens, the distribution of clean water by LAZISNU for drought-affected areas, and tree planting as a step towards disaster risk mitigation.
