NU Care-LAZISNU distributes sacrificial animals to Sumatra disaster-hit regions
NU Care-LAZISNU, the charitable arm of Nahdlatul Ulama, has distributed sacrificial animals from donors to disaster-affected areas in Sumatra, particularly Aceh, to aid regional recovery. Executive Director Riri Khariroh stated this year’s theme is ‘Kurban Mendamaikan’ (Sacrifice for Peace), aiming to strengthen community bonds amid global turmoil and conflicts. Despite challenges in sourcing sacrificial animals, the charity expressed gratitude for donor trust. It prioritises impoverished regions in Java and extends aid internationally, including to Palestine through collaboration with local organisations. The initiative emphasises environmental sustainability, using bamboo baskets and natural leaves like banana or teak instead of single-use plastic for meat distribution.
