NU Care-LAZISNU and Unilever Conduct Financial Literacy Training for Women
NU Care-LAZISNU, in collaboration with PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk through the Unilever Indonesia Foundation, has committed to empowering Indonesian women to become more adaptive, independent, and capable. This is demonstrated through the ‘Smart & Empowered Women: Financial & Digital AI Literacy’ programme.
Running from February until 24 May 2026, the programme is conducted both online and offline across eight different regions, including Bangkalan, Gresik, Sidoarjo, and Jombang in East Java, as well as North Lampung, South Lampung, Metro, and West Tulang Bawang in Lampung Province. More than 4,000 women from various backgrounds, including students, female students at Islamic boarding schools (santri), university students, female teachers, MSME entrepreneurs, and housewives, have participated in the programme.
In a speech at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, the Secretary of LAZISNU PBNU, Moesafa, stated that women play a strategic role in building families and society. Consequently, women must be equipped with the skills to face developments in technology and the digital economy. “Women today play a very significant role, both within the family environment and society. Therefore, they need to be equipped with digital and financial literacy skills so they are not merely technology users, but are also able to utilise it for productive and beneficial purposes,” Moesafa said in an official statement.
He added that the collaboration between NU Care-LAZISNU and the Unilever Indonesia Foundation is part of an effort to expand access to education and strengthen women’s capacity, particularly within boarding schools and grassroots communities. Anik Rifqoh, Deputy Director of Fundraising, Public Relations, and IT at NU Care-LAZISNU PBNU, noted that the ‘Smart & Empowered Women AI’ (PandAI) programme is a collaborative effort to provide inclusive education. The programme targets approximately 20,000 women across Indonesia, aged 12 to 45. To date, online literacy participants have reached 15,172, while offline participants number 4,002.
Nurdiana Darus, Director of Communications, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability at Unilever Indonesia, stated that this programme aligns with Unilever Indonesia’s commitment to promoting broader economic and digital inclusion for women. “We believe that when a woman is empowered—such as mastering financial management and AI technology wisely—the positive impact will not only be felt by herself but will also bring good effects to the welfare of her family and the surrounding community,” she said.
Participants expressed great enthusiasm for the training. Siti Mutaibah, a 42-year-old from Sidoarjo, noted the benefits of learning about AI for daily activities, such as creating banners and flyers for social media. She also emphasised the importance of financial literacy in managing family finances wisely. Through this programme, NU Care-LAZISNU hopes that Indonesian women will become increasingly capable of using technology intelligently and managing finances wisely to build stronger families and societies.
