Jombang (ANTARA) - The organising committee of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress has completed verification of the permanent voter list (DPT), confirming 557 eligible voters who meet the requirements.

Rais Syuriyah of the NU Executive Board (PBNU) and Secretary of the Steering Committee (SC) for the 35th NU Congress, Mohammad Nuh, said in Jombang on Wednesday that the number meets the quorum for holding the congress.

“The DPT has been finalised, with 557 voters. The total was 590, so around 97 percent. In terms of quorum, it is safe,” he said.

The committee has verified the management data of NU regional boards (PWNU), NU branch boards (PCNU), and NU special branch boards (PCINU) who are congress participants.

The data includes the identities of the rais syuriyah, katib syuriyah, chairman, and secretary, including the validity period of the board’s decree (SK).

Each PCNU sends four representatives, while PWNU and PCINU also send four people each. They consist of the rais syuriyah, katib syuriyah, chairman, and secretary according to the verified management data.

According to Mohammad Nuh, around three percent of boards not included in the DPT do not have voting rights because they do not meet administrative requirements, among other reasons because board members have passed away or management data has not been updated.

For PCINU in particular, he said, the issue of data updates is more complex because some board members are students abroad.

After completing their studies and returning to Indonesia, there is not always a board member who continues the PCINU leadership in that country.

Mohammad Nuh stressed that the 35th NU Congress is being held in person. Verified PCINU representatives with voting rights will attend directly at the congress venue in Jombang without any online or hybrid voting mechanism.

Congress participants have also begun arriving in Jombang and registering on Wednesday ahead of the opening of the 35th NU Congress on Thursday (27/8).

The 35th NU Congress is being held at Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School, Jombang Regency, East Java. The opening of the congress is scheduled to be attended by President Prabowo Subianto.

Participants of the 35th NU Congress have also been provided with special chip-based cards to manage access during the series of activities.

The system is part of the digital-based governance prepared by the committee to ensure verified participation while preventing access manipulation during the congress.
