NTT Welcomes Cooperation with Timor-Leste to Strengthen Economic Growth
The Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has welcomed opportunities for cooperation with Timor-Leste in the fields of industry and trade, as well as border area development, to strengthen economic growth in both regions. “In principle, we welcome various cooperation opportunities that provide benefits for both parties. However, because this involves relations between countries, the entire process must follow national regulations and go through coordination mechanisms with the central government,” said Deputy Governor of NTT Johni Asadoma in Kupang on Tuesday. Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma made the statement while receiving an audience with a delegation from Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Trade and Industry along with business actors from the country at the Governor’s Meeting Room in Kupang. The meeting discussed various cooperation opportunities in the fields of trade, industry, investment, renewable energy, and the development of border areas, which are considered to have great potential to improve the welfare of communities in both countries. During the meeting, Johni Asadoma expressed appreciation for the commitment of the Timor-Leste Government, which continues to open communication channels and strengthen partnerships with the NTT Provincial Government. He said that geographical proximity, historical ties, and community interactions in the border region are important assets for building mutually beneficial economic cooperation. Regarding cross-border trade, Johni emphasised that the regional government is ready to support policies set by the central government while ensuring that trade activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations.
