NTT Weather Forecast 20-22 June 2026: Several Regions Potentially Hit by Rain and Strong Winds

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station has issued a weather forecast and early warning for the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region, valid from 20 to 22 June 2026. Several areas in NTT are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the coming days, namely West Manggarai, Manggarai, East Manggarai, Alor, South Central Timor (TTS), North Central Timor (TTU), and Malaka districts. “Although most of NTT has now entered the dry season, the public still needs to be aware of the potential for rain that can still occur in several areas,” said the Head of the El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station, Sti Nenot’ek, in a statement on Saturday (20/6). In addition to rain, BMKG also reminded the public to be alert for strong winds potentially occurring on Sumba Island, Kupang City, Kupang Regency, Rote Ndao, and Sabu Raijua on 20 June 2026. Meanwhile, from 21 to 22 June 2026, he added, the potential for strong winds may still occur in Kupang City, Kupang Regency, Rote Ndao, and Sabu Raijua. According to Sti Nenot’ek, these weather conditions are influenced by active Kelvin and Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) waves, which spatially impact the formation of rain clouds in several parts of NTT. Additionally, atmospheric humidity at the 800 to 700 millibar layer is monitored to be quite high, ranging between 60 and 90 per cent. These conditions support the growth of rain clouds even though most of NTT has entered the dry season and the easterly monsoon winds are beginning to activate. “We urge the public to remain alert to sudden weather changes and to continue monitoring official weather information from BMKG,” said Sti Nenot’ek. He noted that during this period, no areas in NTT are categorised as being on standby or alert status for potential heavy to extreme rain. However, residents in potentially affected areas are asked to increase their vigilance against the possibility of localised flooding, fallen trees, or disruptions to activities due to severe weather.
