NTT Police Narcotics Director Examined by National Police Internal Affairs Division over Abuse of Authority and Extortion Allegations
The Director of Narcotics Investigation at Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Regional Police, Kombes Pol ATB, who is currently on inactive status, is undergoing examination at the Internal Affairs Division (Divpropam) of the National Police headquarters in connection with alleged abuse of authority and extortion against two suspects.
This was confirmed by the Head of Public Relations of NTT Regional Police, Kombes Pol Hemry Novika Chandra, to CNNIndonesia.com on Sunday (15 March).
“The officer in question (Kombes ATB) is being examined at the Divpropam of the National Police headquarters,” said Henry.
However, Henry did not disclose the timing of the examination of Kombes ATB, nor did he provide information on the results of the investigation.
“As for the results of the examination, I do not yet have definitive information, as the examination is being conducted at the National Police headquarters,” he stated.
Henry explained that six members of the narcotics unit who are implicated in the case alongside Kombes ATB are currently undergoing examination at the Internal Affairs Division of NTT Regional Police. These six individuals are AKP HSB, Ipda BB, Aipda OT, Brigpol AI, Briptu LBM, and Bripda JG.
He stated that following the results of the examination, a special case conference will be held between the National Police’s Internal Affairs Division and the Internal Affairs Division of NTT Regional Police to determine the legal status of Kombes ATB and the six other members allegedly involved in the case.
“The case conference will determine the legal status of Kombes ATB and the six other members allegedly involved in this matter,” said Henry.
He also requested public support for the process being conducted by NTT Regional Police to cleanse the institution of practices by members that have tarnished the reputation of the police force.
Earlier, it was reported that the Regional Police Chief of NTT, Irjen Pol Rudi Darmoko, suspended the Director of Narcotics Investigation, Kombes Pol ATB, and six other members of the narcotics unit in connection with alleged extortion and abuse of authority.
“Yes, that is correct, the narcotics director was suspended along with six members,” Henry stated on Saturday evening (14 March).
He stated that the suspension of Kombes ATB from his position was a firm step by the NTT Regional Police Chief to maintain the integrity and honour of the institution by taking strict action against members allegedly committing serious violations.
Kombes ATB was suspended on the grounds that he allegedly abused his authority by extorting two suspects in a health crime case involving the distribution of illegal drugs known as poppers.
“It is alleged that the officer in question (Kombes ATB) together with six investigative assistant personnel from the narcotics unit engaged in extortion against two suspects identified by the initials SF and JH, with transaction values reaching 375 million rupiah,” explained Henry.
Henry stated that the extortion and abuse of authority case involving Kombes Pol ATB and six members originated during the period from March to July 2025, when the Narcotics Investigation Directorate of NTT Regional Police was developing a case involving alleged health crimes related to the distribution of illegal drugs of the poppers variety.
“During the investigation process, allegations of abuse of authority emerged involving a senior officer with the initials KBP ATB (Narcotics Director) together with six other members,” said Henry.
He explained that the alleged illegal practice is said to have occurred through asset negotiation schemes and exploitation of suspect detention periods, which took place both in East Java and at the NTT Regional Police headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Internal Affairs Division of NTT Regional Police, AKBP Muhammad Andra Wardhana, explained that preliminary examinations have been conducted against several personnel, namely AKP HSB, Ipda BB, Aipda OT, Brigpol AI, Briptu LBM, and Bripda JG.
Additionally, various pieces of evidence relating to fund flows have been secured as part of the internal investigation process.
He stated that following the results of the examination, NTT Regional Police will also conduct a special case conference together with the National Police Internal Affairs Division to determine the legal status of Kombes ATB and the six other members allegedly involved in the case.
Should they be found to have violated the Police Professional Code of Ethics as regulated under National Police Regulation Number 7 of 2022, the officers in question may face strict sanctions, including dismissal without honour (PTDH).
