The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police are investigating a report from the family of the late Doctor Icha regarding alleged intimidation, which has been officially received and is now being handled by the Directorate of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Crimes in accordance with legal provisions.

Head of Public Relations for the NTT Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra, stated in Kupang on Saturday that the report was received through the Integrated Police Service Centre and subsequently followed up by the Directorate of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Crimes.

“The report from the late doctor’s family has been officially received. After registration at the Integrated Police Service Centre, its handling was immediately followed up by the Directorate for investigation according to legal provisions,” he said.

He explained that during the reporting process, the family was accompanied by the Deputy Director of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Crimes and the Head of the Integrated Police Service Centre to ensure all stages of the report reception proceeded according to procedure.

According to Henry, investigators will take initial steps by requesting statements from parties with knowledge of the incident, gathering information, and examining evidence related to the report.

“All information provided by the complainant will be investigated through the inquiry process. Investigators will work professionally, objectively, and based on legal facts to fully understand the reported incident,” he stated.

He affirmed the NTT Regional Police’s commitment to providing legal certainty for every public report, including cases that attract public attention.

“Our commitment is to handle every report transparently and accountably. There will be no special treatment for anyone. All parties will be treated equally before the law and every process will be carried out in accordance with statutory regulations,” he said.

Henry also urged the public to maintain a conducive security and public order situation and not to be easily influenced by unverified information.

Furthermore, he invited members of the public who know, see, hear, or have information related to the case to provide their statements to investigators to assist the inquiry process.

“We are open to members of the public who have information that can assist the investigation process. Every statement provided will be verified and made part of the evidentiary process according to the applicable legal mechanism. Public support is very important so that the facts in this case can be fully revealed,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Crimes, AKBP Samuel Simbolon, said that in the initial handling of the case, investigators are applying Article 530 of the Criminal Code, Law Number 1 of 2023, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

“However, this article is still being used as the initial basis for the investigation,” he said.

He added that investigators will cooperate with the National Police Headquarters Forensic Laboratory to trace digital footprints using scientific crime investigation methods.

“Evidence such as documents, mobile phones, and electronic evidence will be secured and sent to the National Police Headquarters Forensic Laboratory for examination,” Samuel stated.
