NTT Police Examine Dozens of Witnesses and Family in Doctor Icha Intimidation Case
The Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Regional Police are intensifying their investigation into the alleged intimidation case involving the late Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, familiarly known as Dr Icha. Through a Joint Investigation team formed by the NTT Police Chief, investigators conducted marathon examinations of dozens of witnesses on Friday (10/7/2026).
The team from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate, led by Sub-Directorate I Head for State Security, Commissioner Edy, deployed nine investigators to examine 30 witnesses at the Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) District Police headquarters. The examinations are scheduled to continue until Saturday (11/7).
The witnesses questioned included various parties, ranging from medical personnel and employees of Leona Kefamenanu Hospital and the Kefamenanu Regional Public Hospital. Additionally, investigators gathered information from participants of a gathering of wives of TTU Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) members that took place before the reported incident, as well as the family of a snakebite patient previously treated by the deceased.
At a separate location, investigators from the Directorate of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Eradication examined the deceased’s father, mother, and boyfriend at the NTT Regional Police Headquarters. This examination follows up on an official report filed by the family.
The victim’s family was accompanied by a legal team from the Victor Emanuel Manbait & Partners Law Office and received support from the NTT Province Women and Children Protection Technical Implementation Unit. “It is true, today the father, mother, and boyfriend of the victim were examined. Meanwhile, the two younger siblings of Dr Icha are scheduled for examination on Monday,” said family attorney Victor Emanuel Manbait.
Deputy Director of Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Eradication at NTT Regional Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Samuel S. Simbolon, confirmed that Friday’s agenda focused on examining the reporting parties and victim witnesses. He added that investigators have scheduled examinations of the reported parties for the following week.
The case emerged after the victim’s family filed a report with the NTT Regional Police Integrated Service Centre on 3 July 2026. The report names four individuals: three members of the TTU District DPRD—Therensius Lazakar (Golkar Party), Norbertus Tubani (National Awakening Party), and Veronika Lake (Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle)—as well as a veterinarian from the TTU Livestock Service, Maria Mathildis Sau.
NTT Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Darmoko, has instructed a comprehensive handling of the case through a Joint Investigation mechanism. This team involves cross-unit participation from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate, the Women and Children Protection Directorate, the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, as well as the TTU District Police and Kupang District Police.
NTT Police Public Relations Head, Senior Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra, stated that the formation of this joint team resulted from assistance with the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency. The aim is to ensure the investigation process is professional, transparent, and based on valid evidence.
In addition to witness examinations, investigators are delving into electronic evidence, the victim’s medical records, and coordinating with criminal law, psychology, and graphology experts, as well as the National Police Forensic Laboratory, to fully uncover the sequence of events.
