NTT may have two more HIV cases

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Herman Musakabe said over the weekend that he has not seen a report issued by the health ministry last week citing the discovery of two HIV-positive prostitutes.

"I haven't received any official reports. We'd better wait so please don't exaggerate," Herman told reporters Saturday.

The ministry's provincial head, Agus Berek, revealed last week that two prostitutes were found to have contracted the Human Immunodeficiency Virus after recent medical testing.

Agus said he will send the women's blood samples to Jakarta to be cross-checked. If the finding is confirmed, the number of HIV- positive people in the province will grow to three, he said.

As of September, one HIV-positive case had been detected in the province. (ste)
