NTT Governor Views 2026 Easter Parade as Platform for Youth Development
East Nusa Tenggara Governor Melki Laka views the 2026 Easter Parade organised by the Youth of the Evangelical Christian Church in Timor (GMIT) as more than a religious celebration; it serves as a platform for nurturing the younger generation.
“The 2026 GMIT Youth Easter Festival is a faith celebration event held to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, while also providing a space for GMIT youth to strengthen brotherhood, enhance faith, and develop their personal potential in service,” he stated.
He conveyed this during his opening remarks at the 2026 Easter Parade organised by GMIT Youth, themed “Light of Peace from the Southern Gateway of the Archipelago”.
The celebration reflects a strong message on the importance of maintaining unity, strengthening tolerance, and optimising regional potentials as drivers of community economic growth.
Melki stated that with the various potentials available, the festival is not only a religious celebration but has also evolved into a significant moment for reinforcing social harmony and promoting sustainable welfare for NTT society.
He also mentioned that at the same location, a previous takbiran parade had been held, symbolising the strong interfaith harmony in the region. This demonstrates high tolerance.
“This Easter spirit should bring peace and prosperity to families, society, and the nation, and inspire us to continue building an advanced, healthy, intelligent, prosperous, and sustainable NTT,” said the Governor.
The Governor also expressed appreciation to GMIT Youth for their active role in building community life, strengthening the character of the younger generation, and enlivening values of love and tolerance.
GMIT Synod Chairman Samuel Pandie emphasised that Easter is a testimony of faith that must be manifested in social life.
Messages of interfaith peace were also delivered by Father Dus Bone, who urged the community to view differences as God’s gifts, strengthen solidarity, and maintain unity and tolerance.
