NTT Governor: 5,000 Housing Units to Be Renovated in 2026
East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - NTT Governor Melki Laka Lena stated that 5,000 housing units in NTT will be renovated in 2026, following a meeting with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, on Thursday (2/4) in Jakarta.
“From 436 housing units in 2025, it will increase to 5,000 housing units in 2026. This is a big leap to help poor communities obtain decent housing,” he said in Kupang on Friday regarding the results of his meeting with the PKP Minister.
The meeting held in Jakarta on Thursday (2/4) became an important momentum for accelerating poverty handling in NTT. PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait outlined three main programmes that will be rolled out massively in the region.
The first programme is the housing renovation, which will experience a drastic surge of up to 12 times or equivalent to 1,200 percent compared to the previous year. A total of 5,000 housing units will be repaired and distributed across 21 regencies and 1 city in NTT.
This scheme offers an interest subsidy of 5 percent with a tenor of up to 30 years, thereby opening access to home ownership for low-income communities.
The targets of this programme include low-grade civil servants, TNI-Polri members, teachers, fishermen, farmers, and UMKM actors who have previously struggled to own decent housing.
The Ministry of PKP, he said, will also carry out improvements to slum areas combined with community economic empowerment through the National Civil Capital (PNM) programme.
Melki expressed his thanks to the central government for the support given to NTT in the housing renovation in the archipelago-based province.
“We thank President Prabowo for the great attention to the poor communities in NTT. This becomes a new hope for improving the quality of life of the communities,” he stated.
As a follow-up step, the PKP Minister is scheduled to visit NTT directly to ensure the integration of central programmes with local government runs optimally.
This strategic meeting was also attended by several regional heads and related officials, marking the seriousness of cross-level government collaboration in reducing poverty rates in NTT.
