NTT eyes RI's phone market
JAKARTA (JP): The Japanese telecommunications firm, Nippon
Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT), plans to enter Indonesia's
lucrative mobile phone market with its personal handy-phone
system (PHS).
NTT's executive vice president Yutaka Hayashi said here
yesterday that his company was waiting for government approval of
the system.
The personal handy-phone, developed by the Japanese
telecommunication industry, is a cheaper type of mobile cellular
telephone. The service in Japan began last July. In addition to
NTT, there are two other operators of the system in Japan, DDI
and Astel.
Hayashi said that Indonesia demonstrated the system in
Bandung, West Java, last August. (icn)
