NTT Earthquake Update: 75 Dead, 92,375 Displaced
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has reported that the death toll from the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has risen to 75.
This data is the latest update from BNPB as of Thursday (20/8) at 16.00 WIB.
“Yesterday we reported 71 fatalities. Today the figure has increased by four, with details of two additional deaths in Sikka Regency, one in Manggarai Regency, and one in Nagekeo,” said Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, during a BNPB press conference on Thursday (20/8).
In addition, BNPB has also recorded 907 injured victims. Compared with previous data, there are nine additional injured victims from Ngada Regency.
The number of displaced people has also increased in line with the high number of aftershocks.
“At present, we have recorded 92,735 people, up from the previous figure of 59,647,” he continued.
The largest increase in displaced people came from Nagekeo Regency, with 21,883 people. This was followed by an increase of 9,649 people from Manggarai Regency and 1,556 people from West Manggarai Regency.
BNPB also reported on the performance of the aid distribution operation managed by BNPB, namely the National Logistics Support Post at Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta. Aid from this post has been sent to Labuan Bajo Airport and Maumere Airport.
“The total amount of aid distributed from 15 to 20 August 2026 is 729 tonnes, sourced from the Ready-to-Use Fund (DSP), from BNPB, and from donations,” Berton revealed.
The types of aid provided include food and non-food assistance. Food aid includes basic food packages, ready-to-eat meals, medicines, and instant noodles. Non-food aid includes tents, mats, blankets, mattresses, and generators.
On Saturday (15/8), an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck NTT. The NTT Provincial Government then declared an Earthquake Emergency Response Status from 15 to 28 August 2026.
As of Thursday (20/8) at 16.00 WIB, the total number of aftershocks had reached 3,752 events. Due to the continuing high number of aftershocks, including some classified as large, the public is urged to remain vigilant and prepared.
