NTT Earthquake Update: 69 Dead, 34,689 Displaced, Here Are the Details

The earthquake that struck Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has killed 69 people. A further 331 people were injured, while 34,689 residents have been forced to evacuate.

The figures are based on a report from the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD NTT) as of Tuesday (18/8/2026) at 09.00 Wita. The data was conveyed by BPBD NTT Policy Analyst Richard Pelt.

“This total is based on data from the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD NTT), Tuesday (18/8/2026),” said Richard.

He detailed that the highest number of fatalities was recorded in Manggarai Regency with 26 deaths, followed by East Manggarai (25), Nagekeo (8), Sikka (4), and West Manggarai, Ende, and Ngada with two deaths each.

In addition to claiming lives, the earthquake also caused damage in several areas. BPBD NTT recorded that 19,297 homes were affected in Flores and its surroundings.

Of the total affected homes, 6,463 units suffered severe damage, 2,481 units sustained moderate damage, and 12,006 units experienced minor damage.

Damage also occurred to a number of public facilities. The breakdown includes 658 educational facilities, 172 health service facilities, 172 places of worship, 187 office buildings, and 89 public facilities.

The damage occurred across eight regencies: Manggarai, West Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ende, Sikka, Ngada, Nagekeo, and East Sumba.

The scale of the earthquake’s impact has forced tens of thousands of residents to leave their homes and seek shelter. They are avoiding the potential for aftershocks as well as the impact of building damage.

“At present, the number of displaced people has reached 34,689,” he said.

The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government, together with BPBD, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and volunteers, is continuing to conduct data collection, evacuation, and distribution of aid for affected residents.
