NTT Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 111, 188,000 Evacuated

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Acting Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Berton SP Panjaitan, stated that the number of fatalities due to the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) reached 111 as of Sunday, August 30, 2026.

“There have been no additional casualties compared to the previous data,” he said in a press conference on BNPB’s YouTube channel. Meanwhile, the number of injured victims has reached 1,631, with 223 of them sustaining serious injuries and the rest suffering minor injuries.

Berton mentioned that approximately 188,161 people have been displaced, a decrease of 4,142 from previous data. The largest number of displaced people is concentrated in the Nagekeo and Manggarai regencies. “Each with around 50,000 individuals,” he said.

Berton stated that approximately 95,567 housing units were damaged in 7 affected regencies. Preliminary data shows that 27,414 homes were severely damaged, 21,992 were moderately damaged, and 46,161 were minimally damaged.

However, Berton mentioned that the extent of the damage will need to be re-verified. “Whether it is indeed minor, moderate, or severe damage,” he said.

Since the main earthquake struck NTT on Saturday, August 15, 2026, there have been around 9,756 aftershocks. The largest aftershock measured 6.2 on the Richter scale, while the smallest measured 1.0. The pattern of aftershocks shows a decrease up to the present day. However, he emphasized that aftershocks will continue for the next three to four weeks following the main earthquake that struck NTT.
