The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has reported that the number of fatalities from the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has risen to 83.

This was conveyed by the Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, during a press conference on Friday (21/8).

“As of 16.00 WIB today, Friday, 21 August 2026, the number of deaths has reached 83. The figure we reported yesterday was 75, so there has been an increase of 8, with the details showing that the deaths were due to the indirect impact of the earthquake,” said Berton.

The additional fatalities comprised two in Manggarai Regency, two in East Manggarai Regency, two in Nagekeo Regency, and one in Ngada Regency.

Furthermore, the number of injured has been reported at 986, an increase of 79 from the previous report.

Meanwhile, the number of displaced people now stands at 110,785, an increase of 18,050 from the previous figure of 92,735.

The number of damaged houses has also risen to 44,946 units. This figure includes 17,176 units categorised as heavily damaged, 9,758 as moderately damaged, and 18,013 as lightly damaged. The regencies with the highest number of damaged houses are East Manggarai, West Manggarai, and Manggarai.

Previously, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck NTT on Saturday (15/8). As of 16.00 on Friday (21/8), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had recorded 4,258 aftershocks.

The largest aftershock measured magnitude 6.2, while the smallest was magnitude 1.1. A total of 118 aftershocks were felt by residents.
