The bodies of two victims of a brutal shooting by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) arrived in Kupang on Friday (11/09/2026). The victims were Willy Mbuik (24) and veterinarian Alfonsius Mehan (35), who were killed by the KKB in the Muliama District, Jayawijaya Regency, Highland Papua Province, on Wednesday (09/09/2026).

The remains were flown via a Citilink aircraft and received at the Cargo Terminal of El Tari Airport, Kupang, by the Deputy Governor of NTT, Johni Asadoma. It was noted that Willy was a junior civil servant at the Jayawijaya Agriculture Office, while Alfonsius was a civil servant veterinarian at the same agency. Willy hailed from Rote Ndao, whereas Alfonsius was from Maumere.

Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma strongly condemned the heinous act. “We express our deepest condolences to the families of the KKB shooting victims. We are very sad and we are in mourning,” said Johni.

“We strongly condemn the brutal, barbaric actions of the KKB against the citizens of NTT who fell victim. They were there to serve the people of Papua. They were not there to fight anyone, but to serve and assist with sincerity. Why must they be killed?” added the retired police general.

Johni also urged security forces to immediately apprehend the perpetrators to be tried according to the applicable law.

“We hope that the authorities can track and arrest the perpetrators, and that they be tried according to the law so that they receive punishment commensurate with their actions,” he explained.

Furthermore, Johni requested all NTT residents currently in Papua to increase their vigilance. He urged the leaders of community associations to coordinate with all residents there and work with security forces to ensure protection.

“Avoid dangerous areas or places far from crowds. If you need to go anywhere, please inform and request an escort from the security forces,” he advised.

He urged security forces to work at maximum capacity to provide protection to all civilians in Papua, including both indigenous people and migrants.

“There are many NTT residents in Papua, across various regencies. Since NTT residents are well-accepted there, we certainly hope that the Papuan community can also assist in providing protection to those living there,” he explained.

Johni ensured that the NTT Provincial Government would provide services to the victims’ families throughout the mourning period until the funeral.

“We will provide various services needed by the victims’ families during this period of mourning until the funeral. We will coordinate with the Rote Regency Government to ensure a proper reception and provide the best services for the victims and their families,” he stated.

From El Tari International Airport, the Deputy Governor and his entourage escorted the bodies to Bolok Port for a final tribute before they were dispatched to Rote Ndao via the KMP Lakaan ferry.
