NTB Quarantine Destroys Three Tonnes of Animal and Fish Products Lacking Documentation

The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency has destroyed more than three tonnes of animal and fish products that were being transported without health or quarantine documents. The destruction was carried out to prevent the entry and spread of pests and diseases into the NTB region, according to a statement from Head of NTB Quarantine Ina Soelistyani in Mataram on Tuesday. The commodities were discovered during a loading and unloading inspection at Lembar Port, West Lombok Regency, on 14 July 2026. The products, transported by truck from Gianyar Regency, Bali, to Mataram City, lacked the required health certificates and quarantine documents. As the owner failed to complete the necessary documentation within the stipulated time, officers proceeded with the quarantine action of destruction on 20 July 2026, in accordance with regulations. The destroyed fishery products, weighing 769 kilogrammes, comprised six types including black tiger prawns, tuna jaw, mahi-mahi, shellfish, barramundi, and salmon meat. The destroyed animal products, totalling 2,298.6 kilogrammes, consisted of frozen pork, fresh beef, processed beef, processed chicken, and cheese. Ina stressed that quarantine documents are not merely administrative requirements but serve as proof that commodities have undergone quarantine measures at their origin and are safe for transport. Given NTB’s high traffic of livestock and fishery commodities, the area is at risk of disease entry and spread through non-compliant products. Compliance with quarantine regulations is essential for protecting animal health, fishery resources, and food safety, as well as ensuring the smooth flow of inter-regional commodity traffic. Destruction is the final measure when quarantine requirements are not met, and all business operators and transport companies are urged to ensure their commodities are accompanied by complete quarantine documents before departure.
