Mataram (ANTARA) - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Quarantine Office has begun preparing for an increase in the movement of animals, fish, and plants, following the surge in human mobility expected for the MotoGP event at the Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok, from 9 to 11 October 2026.

The Head of the General Sub-Division of NTB Quarantine, Dirman, stated that the increase in human mobility during major events has the potential to be accompanied by a surge in commodity traffic; therefore, the agency is preparing services at several entry and exit points in NTB.

“When there are large events, human mobility increases, and of course, there is the possibility that commodity traffic will also increase,” he said when met at the FMIPA Building, Mataram University, on Tuesday.

Dirman noted that services at these points will continue to operate 24 hours a day. Additionally, the agency is conducting patrols in several locations that could potentially serve as unofficial routes for the entry and exit of commodities.

The Person in Charge of the Lombok Airport Service Unit for NTB Quarantine, Farhan, stated that supervision at the airport will be more intensive due to the potential surge in passenger numbers during this international event.

“At the airport, we are being even more intensive because of the surge in passengers, but in terms of regulation, the essence remains the same regarding inspection, supervision, and operational services,” he said.

Farhan added that the agency is ensuring operational services continue smoothly, so that public mobility in supporting the international race, including the Mandalika MotoGP, can proceed without hindering quarantine service processes.

NTB Quarantine advises members of the public carrying animals, fish, or plants to use official service channels by visiting quarantine service points or accessing services online.

Quarantine services are provided based on the principles of being easy, affordable, and fast, ensuring the public can comply with official commodity traffic regulations.

Through this supervision, NTB Quarantine aims to prevent the entry and spread of pests and diseases affecting animals, fish, or plant-disturbing organisms that could threaten the agricultural, livestock, and fisheries sectors in West Nusa Tenggara.
