NTB Quarantine Agency Assesses Mangoes as Potential New Export Commodity

The Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) Quarantine Agency has assessed that mangoes have the potential to become a new export commodity that could contribute to the region’s economic turnover. The Head of NTB Quarantine, Ina Soelistyani, stated that mangoes are very abundant in the area, yet this potential has not been tapped for export purposes. She noted that the majority of the mango harvest from various regions in NTB is still marketed for domestic needs. Ina explained that the commodity could increase the value of the region’s non-mining exports if quality and technical requirements can be consistently met. Sumbawa Regency is the largest mango-producing area, reaching 352,000 quintals, followed by Central Lombok Regency with 298,827 quintals, and North Lombok Regency with 113,369 quintals. Ina highlighted that the ability to maintain supply continuity is a crucial factor in exporting agricultural commodities. A sustainable supply of products is the main requirement to fulfil overseas market demand. Besides mangoes, the NTB Quarantine Agency also sees export potential in coffee and cocoa commodities. Ina revealed that the process of issuing quarantine certificates, which serve as a passport for commodity exports, does not take long if all technical requirements are complete.
