The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) provincial government has responded to the growing efforts to disband student screenings (nobar) of the film Pig Party, produced by Dandhy Laksono and his team, at several campuses in Mataram. The most recent incident involved the dissolution by the rectorate of Universitas Mataram (Unram) on Thursday night (7/5).

Previously, a similar dissolution of the Pig Party film screening occurred at Universitas Pendidikan Mandalika (Undikma) in Mataram on Monday (27/4). Additionally, a comparable action was taken by the rectorate of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Mataram on Friday night (8/5).

The Head of the National Unity and Politics Agency (Bakesbangpol) of NTB, Surya Bahari, stated that he had coordinated with Undikma and Unram regarding the dissolution of the film screening. According to him, the campuses carried out the dissolutions considering the impacts that could arise.

“If left unchecked, the impact would be extraordinary if indeed allowed to proceed. We have coordinated with Undikma and its rectorate. So, it’s just internal coordination for now,” said the former NTB DPRD Secretary on Monday (11/5/2026).

Surya emphasised that the NTB provincial government has not yet issued a specific ban on the screening of the film in the community. However, he suggested that group or public screenings be postponed for the time being.

“So, there is no specific ban. But postpone it first. We are concerned about the impact. There is no instruction from the centre for a ban yet,” he said.

According to Surya, the title of the film Pig Party is considered inappropriate in society. Therefore, he asked those wishing to hold public screenings to postpone them first.

“Just mentioning the film’s name gives a different impression. It’s just not appropriate,” he said.

Surya also stated that he would coordinate with the Mataram Detachment of Military Police IX/2 and the NTB Regional Police to determine whether the screening of the film by Dandhy Laksono needs to be banned or not.

“We also conveyed to Denpom IX/2 Mataram what the film is actually about. Because the title is not good in my view. I haven’t watched it yet,” he said.

He expressed his intention to watch the film first before giving an official statement regarding its content.

“Later, I’ll request the film and then we’ll make an official statement. If there’s a ban on campus, that’s still internal to the campus,” Surya stressed.

The Rector of Universitas Mataram, Sukardi, commented on the dissolution of students screening the film Pig Party in front of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) building on Thursday night (7/5).

According to Sukardi, the dissolution was carried out because the organisers did not provide detailed information about the planned activity, including the type of event and the number of participants involved in the screening.

“So, to anticipate order, the dissolution was carried out after a large crowd gathered, including those who were not Unram students,” he said.

Sukardi claimed that at the same time, students from the Unram Faculty of Engineering were also holding a screening of the same film and did not receive any reprimand from the rectorate.

“So, the dissolution was purely for reasons of order and not to silence expression. This incident can serve as material for evaluation for all of us to improve the organisation of activities in the Unram environment,” he concluded.
