NTB Provincial Government Repatriates Sick Migrant Worker from Malaysia

The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has repatriated an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) from Bima Regency, identified as Adnan (49), after he was reported to have fallen ill while working in Sarawak, East Malaysia.

Head of the NTB Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans) Aidy Furqan stated in Mataram on Friday that the repatriation was a follow-up to the Governor’s directive to ensure that every NTB citizen facing problems abroad receives fast, measured, and sustainable service and protection.

“Under the Governor’s direction and attention, we moved quickly to build cross-agency and cross-regional coordination, as well as with Indonesian representatives abroad. The state must be present to provide protection to all NTB migrant workers, whether they are working or facing problems in their placement country,” he said.

He explained that the handling process began after a report was received from the Talapiti Village Government and the Bima Regency Manpower and Transmigration Office regarding Adnan’s condition, who was working non-procedurally in Sarawak, East Malaysia. “Every report regarding NTB migrant workers is a priority for immediate follow-up,” Aidy stressed.

Aidy explained that coordination with the Talapiti Village Government and the Bima Regency Manpower and Transmigration Office successfully pinpointed the exact location of the workplace, the company’s identity, and the telephone number of the PMI’s colleague who was still in Malaysia.

“The coordination confirmed that Adnan was at PT. Citra Indah SDN. BHD. Lot 1 Block 16, Dulit Land District, Batang Asoso, Baram, Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia, and we also obtained the contact number of his colleague for tracing purposes,” he said.

“We immediately carried out technical coordination with the Bima Regency Disnakertrans and the Talapiti Village Government to confirm the PMI’s location and obtain his colleague’s contact. Once the data was complete, we promptly coordinated with the Protection Counsellor for Indonesian Citizens at the KJRI Kuching so that the tracing and handling process could be carried out quickly, accurately, and effectively,” he added.

After obtaining the accurate address and location, his office immediately coordinated with the Protection Counsellor for Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) at the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Kuching, considering the PMI’s location was within the KJRI Kuching’s working area, which oversees Sarawak, East Malaysia.

Thanks to this coordination, KJRI Kuching immediately conducted a search, coordinating with the company and the agent, until finally on 28 June 2026, Adnan was successfully extracted from the plantation location and handed over to the agent for processing his repatriation to Indonesia.

The latest development as of 30 June 2026 is that Adnan has arrived safely in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, with his family. He is scheduled to continue his journey to NTB. The NTB Provincial Government has assured that it will continue monitoring until Adnan arrives safely in Bima Regency.
