NTB Provincial Government pushes for expansion of social security coverage for workers
The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is pushing for the expansion of employment social security protection for workers even as the region’s finances face fiscal constraints.
Vice Governor of NTB Indah Dhamayanti Putri said social security protection remains a priority for the regional government because it has a direct impact on workers’ welfare.
“We realise how important this role (social security) is in helping the welfare of the community, especially women who are heads of families and carry a heavy burden of responsibility,” she said at the Jamsostek Award 2026 event in Mataram on Wednesday.
Indah said the region’s fiscal constraints pose a challenge in determining budget priorities, so district and city governments must continue to demonstrate their commitment to worker protection.
She assessed that employment social security helps maintain the continuity of family life when a breadwinner suffers a work accident or dies.
Indah asked all regents and mayors in West Nusa Tenggara to strengthen their commitment and allocate budgets appropriately to expand the coverage of worker protection.
“Regional governments have an important role in expanding the coverage of this protection, especially for vulnerable worker groups,” she said.
Furthermore, Indah appreciated BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, which has been considered a strategic partner of the government in various social protection programmes, including activities that directly reach the community at the grassroots level.
She expressed hope that the Jamsostek Award would not merely be an accolade or a source of pride for recipients, but would serve as a trigger to improve the quality of employment social security protection.
“What is good today must be better tomorrow. Those who are protected today must see that protection expanded tomorrow, and those who are not yet protected, we will ensure they receive protection soon,” concluded the Vice Governor of NTB.
