NTB Provincial Government Begins Repairing Kediri-Kuripan Road, Spending Rp 700 Million
The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has deployed the NTB Infrastructure Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) to address damage on the road section between Kediri and Kuripan Districts in West Lombok Regency. The 5.6-kilometre provincial road has long been a source of complaints from motorists.
Kusnadi, Head of the Lombok Island Provincial Road Maintenance Centre at the NTB Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPRPKP), said the work on the ground is prioritised at the points with the most severe damage. The work is being carried out by the Infrastructure TRC, which was recently established by NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal on Tuesday (21/7/2026).
‘Today we are overlaying the road. So, we are resurfacing the places where the surface is rough. We are not handling it comprehensively, but sporadically at the damaged points,’ Kusnadi said in a statement on Sunday (26/7/2026).
Repairs began on Friday (24/7/2026). Crews first closed potholes at several accident-prone points before applying a coarse asphalt layer.
Of the total 5.6-kilometre road length, Kusnadi said the effective resurfacing targets around 5 kilometres. In addition to the asphalt work, the team is also tidying road shoulders and cleaning drainage channels along the section.
Kusnadi explained that the repair of the Kediri-Kuripan road utilises a routine maintenance budget of Rp 700 million. The work is being adjusted to field conditions to ensure the available funds are used appropriately.
‘We have a budget of Rp 700 million. So, we are adjusting to the field conditions. We cannot handle it comprehensively because this is routine maintenance,’ he clarified.
According to Kusnadi, the repairs are a response to complaints from residents submitted to the NTB Provincial Government. Going forward, the Infrastructure TRC is targeted to follow up on public reports regarding damaged roads within a maximum of 24 hours of receipt.
‘Whatever input from the public, within 24 hours we will respond and conduct verification in the field to determine the handling steps. If the damage is minor, we can handle it immediately,’ Kusnadi stressed.
He added that the asphalt material used has passed laboratory tests in accordance with maintenance standards, making it more durable despite being a thin overlay.
Local residents have welcomed the repair of the alternative Kediri-Kuripan route. Isroq, a resident of Dua Pelet Hamlet, Kuripan Village, expressed his delight that the road, which had been dangerous for motorists, is finally being fixed.
‘Alhamdulillah, the community is happy. This road has not been touched for a long time. Hopefully, with these repairs, accidents can be reduced,’ said Isroq.
According to Isroq, the road section is a vital artery for daily mobility with heavy traffic flow. He hopes the repairs will facilitate smoother transportation between villages.
‘There are often accidents on this road because motorists swerve to avoid potholes. If it is smooth, hopefully, the number of accidents can be reduced,’ he concluded.
