NTB Police Confirm Investigation into Santri Burning Case in Lombok Continues
The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police are continuing the investigation into the case of three santri who were burned at the Rosudatussaulatiyah Al Ibrahimy Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok, NTB. The case, in which two suspects have been named, has been taken over from the Central Lombok Police.
The Director of the Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Eradication Directorate (Dirres PPA-PPO) of the NTB Police, Commissioner Ni Made Pujewati, stated that her team is not initiating a new investigation but is continuing the existing one.
‘Continuing the investigation,’ Pujewati told detikBali on Friday (17/7/2026).
The two suspects in this case are the head of the pesantren, Ahmad Muzakki Rahmatullah alias AMR, and MR (15), a fellow santri and friend of the victims.
Pujewati said both have not yet been examined as suspects. However, their questioning has been scheduled for the near future.
‘It has been scheduled,’ she said.
Both are charged under Article 474, paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. They are considered negligent, leading to the death and serious injury of the victims.
The three santri who were burned are Ahmad Deven Ramdan (14), Sahid Al Hudri, and Muhamad Sahril Sobirin. All three have died.
It is understood that the NTB Police took over the handling of the case following a request from Commission III of the House of Representatives. The request came after a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with the victims’ families and their advocates.
