NTB picks three gubernatorial candidates
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB)
provincial legislative council has selected three candidates to
contest the gubernatorial election on July 21.
In a plenary session here on Thursday presided over by
provincial legislature chairman Abdul Kappi, all of the factions
agreed to pick three candidates from among all the names proposed
by the provincial legislature and local organizations.
The three candidates selected are current Governor Harun Al
Rasyid, Mesir Suryadi and Lalu Serinata.
Harun and his running mate, Nanang Samodra Kusuma, were
nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI
Perjuangan) faction. Mesir and his running mate, Ismaildin, were
nominated by the Golkar Party faction, while Lalu and running
mate Thamrin Rayes were nominated by the United Development Party
(PPP) and Coalition factions.
Abdul Kappi said the names of the candidates would be sent to
home minister Hari Sabarno in Jakarta for approval.
"If the central government approves the proposed candidates,
the provincial legislative council will hold a plenary session on
July 21 to elect a new governor and deputy governor," he said.
