NTB Narcotics Agency Uncovers Methamphetamine Smuggling Network from Malaysia

The National Narcotics Agency of West Nusa Tenggara (BNNP NTB) has uncovered a network smuggling one kilogram of methamphetamine from Malaysia through Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (BIZAM), involving a Malaysian national and several local perpetrators. BNNP NTB Chief Brigadier General Pol. Marjuki stated in Mataram on Wednesday that the case began with a joint operation with Mataram Customs on 20 June 2026, which led to the arrest of a Malaysian citizen with the initials MA (33) as a suspect. According to him, the investigation revealed that MA had concealed five packages of methamphetamine, with three strapped to his body and two hidden internally, when entering Indonesia via BIZAM. Investigators then developed the case and identified the involvement of an individual with the initials AD, who allegedly instructed MA to smuggle the methamphetamine to Lombok Island in exchange for 9,000 Malaysian ringgit. The investigation also led to the arrest of a man with the initials NE (45) in Mataram City through a controlled delivery strategy. Controlled delivery is a special investigative technique used by law enforcement agencies, such as the police or narcotics agency, to track, monitor, and allow the delivery of illegal goods, such as drugs, to reach their final destination. From the examination, investigators further identified an alleged controller with the initial P located in East Lombok Regency. On Wednesday, BNNP NTB destroyed the one kilogram of methamphetamine that served as evidence in the case, as part of completing the investigation file before it is submitted to the court. ‘So, the results of this destruction activity will complete the case file for the trial,’ Marjuki said. Head of Mataram Customs Bambang Parwanto affirmed that his agency will continue to strengthen surveillance against potential narcotics smuggling via air routes by enhancing passenger profiling and cooperation with BNNP and the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police.
