NTB High Court Upholds 10-Year Prison Sentence for Rizka

The Nusa Tenggara Barat High Court has upheld a 10-year prison sentence for former police officer Rizka Sintiani in the case of the murder of her husband, Brigadier Esco Faska Rely.

Head of Intelligence at the Mataram District Prosecutor’s Office, Ida Made Oka Wijaya, said in Mataram on Friday that the appellate ruling affirmed the first-instance verdict, meaning Rizka’s sentence remains 10 years in prison.

“Because it affirms, the defendant at the appeal stage remains sentenced to 10 years in prison,” Oka said.

Regarding the follow-up to the ruling, Oka said the Mataram Prosecutor’s Office has not yet determined whether to pursue further legal action to the Supreme Court or accept the appellate decision.

Meanwhile, prosecutors had previously also filed appeals for four other defendants: Saiun, Nuraini, Paozi, and Dani Rifkan. However, the appellate rulings for those four defendants have not yet been read out.

The panel of judges sentenced the former West Lombok Police officer to 10 years in prison because she was proven to have committed physical violence within the domestic sphere that resulted in the death of her husband, Brigadier Esco.

Mitigating factors included the defendant having a young child, family dependents, and no prior criminal record.

In the official sphere, the NTB Regional Police have imposed a dishonourable discharge on Rizka based on the ruling of the NTB Police Ethics Tribunal.
